more refined ideas scenery

after a couple sketches i made trying to see if i could handle drawing scenery i have decided that i might have a look see if i can make something to a larger scale and incorporate a scene to make it look more interesting. although i can see that these sketches are far from refined, or to a professional standard i would say that there is something there that i can try move forward and improve.

as scenery has always been tough to get the grasp of i feel like i can make this project a learning curve for myself. been able to do this would open more doors for me as creating new landscapes and organic material/plant life is very much appreciated in a concept artist.

as well as all of this i would like to know how to do this to a better standard for myself also.
i believe that my work lacks structure a lot of the time and this could help improve that.

more ideas and sketches

as i do more sketches as to what people can relate themselves to in a fictional world i feel like what I'm making is more of character design based around no fixed story. just ideas of characters that come to mind. although this could be a product/ publication that i myself would buy i believe that it wouldn't be a great theme to use based on what the outcome is asking.

also the characters show a positive uplifting side, something that i believe comes with creating a fictional personality. however i feel like i would possibly like to go a bit darker. what i generally like to draw are usually emotionless designs and non scenic images and i would like to challenge myself to make something i wouldn't usually make.

i feel like i must push against what i would usually turn to to make a final product and try things that would help me progress in the field that i wish to enter.

in saying this i know that i have over the past couple years of this course, tried making work that i wouldn't call my own. i try making imagery that doesn't come naturally to me, and in return i have really disliked what i have made. with a few exceptions.

therefore i will allow myself to somewhat make something that i would buy if i saw it. but simultaneously push myself to make something more finalised than just some concept ideas.

initial sketches

my initial ideas have been based on what i imagine people would perceive themselves as in day to day life.
as i really enjoy watching people and their actions i documented some people participating in everyday activities and i overlapped them with what alternative people they could be.

as a thought i realise that this could look creepy if i looked into sexualisation of characters based on what people can sometimes use themselves to represent themselves. so i have decided to stay away from this idea. for the most part at least.

as initial sketches i like the idea and the concept behind them. however i feel like it is too simple of an idea at this given moment.

i also believe that as a starting point it is basically a pretty close representation of the essay ideas i have made. i feel like this would just be illustrating the essay and i feel like i should stay away from this if i want to create a stronger piece of work.

study task

  1. reoccuring themes withing the three bodies of text consist of sharing a similar opinion based on the use of graohic design. as (Garland, 1964) states "By far the greatest time and effort of those working in the advertising industry are wasted on these trivial purposes, which contribute little or nothing to our national prosperity.” showing that their time could be put to better use. following on from this opinion we have  (Adbusters, 2000) with “Many of us have grown increasingly uncomfortable with this view of design.”, as this suggests that although their baseline argument is the same, their approaches are the only thing that differentiates. then we have “ By now, virtually all media, architecture, product and graphic design have been freed from ideas, individual passion, and have been relegated to a role of corporate servitude” taken from (Kalman, 1998). the examples given all point to a lack of respect for the talent that graphic designers hold, as well as how they are forced to work and create products that are below them whilst they could be working on greater things.

2.   isklar is a brand thats product is fizzy water. as (Garland, 1964) shares that ‘We think that there are other things more worth using our skill and experience on” and shames the jobs such as isklar fizzy water packaging. such products have lessened the impression that graphic designers are worth more than creating such things.

3+4.    FUCK COMMITTEES by Tibor Kalman.

the overall impression this text gives is that of a violent nature, the idea that it has become a serious problem to the point that such words as “fuck committees” has had to be used to immediately get the point across. however this tone with an audience that lets say doesn't know about the graphic design field could potentially turn people away from continuing or even agreeing with what is been said. as (Kalman, 1998) continues, it is stated that “All cars look the same. Architectural decisions are made by accountants. Ads are stupid. Theater is dead.” in saying this it shows that graphic design isn't been put into what it should be, and as a result they have become dumb. then from this the only work that is been offered are the trivial, less impressive creations.

question development add the ideas*

i have had a lot of issues developing a final question. i am finding it very difficult to narrow something down to use that i know i will be able to answer well.
